According to the Rhode Island Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) website, you may need an IID in Rhode Island if you have been convicted of a DUI or if you have refused to submit to a breathalyzer test when asked to do so by a police officer.

How do I apply for a Hardship License in Rhode Island?

According to the Rhode Island DMV website, to apply for a hardship license in Rhode Island you must first install an Ignition Interlock Device. Call us at (800) 831-3299 to book your installation today!

Once the Rhode Island Court has ordered that you get a Hardship License, you must go to the Division of Motor Vehicles Adjudication Office with the following documents:

  • Proof of installation of the Ignition Interlock Device which Smart Start will give you (Installation Certificate).
  • Court Order from the Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal with requirements for a hardship license, including the authorized hours of operation (Court Order).
  • Payment of $100.00 Ignition Interlock fee to be paid at the Adjudication Office of the DMV.
  • Payment of $27.50 to update license to add hardship restriction.
