New Mexico Ignition Interlock Laws

For first and repeat DWI offenders, the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) and the courts may require you to install an Ignition Interlock Device (IID) in your vehicle if you…

  • Had a breath alcohol concentration (BAC) level of .08 or higher.
  • Are guilty of a second or subsequent DWI traffic offense.
  • Caused bodily injury and/or death at time of DWI.
  • Refused to take a drug or alcohol test from a police officer on your record.

*You will be responsible for all costs and installation services for the IID, and bring your vehicle in for regular monitoring and service.
