OC Police Plan ‘Dozens’ of Checkpoints
This weekend is the beginning of the Holiday season, with Christmas and New Years rolling through in the next two weeks. Orange County Police have announced that beginning this weekend, and rolling through the beginning of next year, there will be a series of DUI checkpoints and saturation patrols to help eliminate any potential drunk drivers. Running through New Year’s Day there are 14 DUI checkpoints planned and 27 saturation patrols in the Orange County area.
In 2012, 830 people were killed as a result of drunk driving, either by them or by another driver. 26 of those fatalities happened on Christmas Day. This year Orange County police are hoping their extended efforts will keep the public safe, and prevent many holiday tragedies. Officers want to remind everyone that even just one drink can alter or impair your judgement, so be safe this holiday season and designate a sober driver, or use a taxi if you know you and those in your party will be drinking. IT is much better to be safe and avoid making this holiday season tragic for your family or someone else’s.
