DUI Checkpoint in Fairfield
On Friday, August 21, 2015, there will be a DUI checkpoint within the Fairfield city limits. The checkpoint will take place from 7:00 PM to 2:00 AM Saturday morning. The checkpoint is being conducted by the Fairfield Police Department Traffic Unit.
DUI checkpoints are a proven resource in stopping drunk drivers before they get behind the wheel. Research shows that DUI checkpoints can reduce the number of persons killed or injured in an alcohol related crash by about 20 percent.
In 2012, 800 people were killed and almost 24,000 were injured in accidents where alcohol was involved. There were nearly 10,000 deaths nationally in 2012, all because someone decided to get behind the wheel after they had been drinking.
Smart Start of California wants to encourage all those who are going out in Fairfield, or any other city, this weekend to be safe. If you will be drinking make sure you designate a driver before you go out, or plan ahead and take a cab or use services like Uber and Lyft.
