Alleged Drunk Driver Passes Out on 805
Can you imagine driving along when you spot a stopped car, slowing down to see if the driver needs assistance, and discovering the driver passed out in the driver’s seat? Well that’s what some experienced over the weekend when they found 25-year-old Amber Dlaine McKinney Morgan passed out in the middle of the 805 North. Another driver tried to awaken the driver but was unable to do so, so they called California Highway Patrol.
CHP tried to get the driver’s attention by tapping on the window with a flashlight, but she remained unresponsive. The car began rolling as the driver’s foot came off the brake, so the quick thinking officer ran to the passenger side and broke the window to gain access to the car. The car and driver were then safely moved to the side of the road. At this point authorities arrested the driver for suspicion of drunk driving.
If convicted, Morgan faces a variety of penalties for getting a DUI. These penalties include jail time, losing her license, paying some hefty fines, alcohol education courses, and possibly installation of an ignition interlock device.

Drunk driving is always illegal, and it’s not very smart. There are plenty of other options, especially now with the prevalence of Uber or Lyft. At the very least, call a taxi or stay where you are and sober up. Thankfully, this incident did not end in tragedy but many others have, and we have the power to change that.
