What happens after I get my DUI?
If you get a DUI in the state of Utah, you’ll get a citation and a letter to appear in court. You’ll attend your court date, and once you’ve gotten through your sentencing, your judge will order you to receive and install an Ignition Interlock Device. You may also receive a letter from the Utah Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) requiring you to install. You will have 30 days after your court date to install the Ignition Interlock Device.
What do I need to bring to my installation?
Once you have scheduled your Ignition Interlock Device (IID) installation with Smart Start, you will need to bring the following:

What should I bring back to my State authority after my device is installed?
Once the Ignition Interlock Device in installed, you’ll bring back the lease agreement paperwork provided and a receipt for your first month’s payment. Then, your State authority will call Smart Start’s Customer Care Center at 800.831.3299 to receive your reports.
How do I know if Smart Start’s devices are compliant with my program?
Smart Start’s Ignition Interlock Devices (IIDs) meet all state and federal regulations, so you can be sure that our device will be compliant with your program. Smart Start is on the list of state-approved Ignition Interlock Device providers in Utah. Smart Start’s IIDs are tested to meet the standards set by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
What happens if I violate?
If you violate in the state of Utah, your State authority will be notified, and your State authority will follow up at his/her/its discretion.
How often does my IID need to be serviced?
Utah state law requires that you service your Ignition Interlock Device (IID) at a Smart Start service center every 30-60 days, depending on what your State authority has ordered.

The state of Utah requires that you install an Ignition Interlock Device (IID) only on the vehicle you drive. If you drive more than one vehicle, you’ll need it on more than one vehicle.
Where can I go for service? Anywhere, or just within my state?
In Utah, you can service your Ignition Interlock Device (IID) at any Smart Start service center nationwide. However, installation and removal may only be performed by a Smart Start service center within Utah. If you remove or install out of state, you will be required to reinstall and/or remove within the state.

In Utah, if you’re on probation, a camera is required. If you’re not on probation, you’ll just need the basic Ignition Interlock Device (IID). Any other additions may be specified by your State authority.
Where does installation fall based on my condition?
In the state of Utah, unless you’re installing voluntarily, you must receive a court order or a DMV order before you install an Ignition Interlock Device (IID).
Does the camera watch me all the time?
No; the compatible camera only takes pictures of your actual tests. There is no live video feed.
