Iowa law mandates that anyone in the state who has been convicted of an OWI install an Ignition Interlock Device on every vehicle driven by them to qualify for a temporary restricted license. This includes those charged with an OWI for the first time. If it is a second or subsequent OWI offense, the person must install an Ignition Interlock Device on all vehicles owned or operated.
According to the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) website, to apply for a temporary restricted license after being charged with an OWI, you will need to complete Form 430400, Request for Temporary Restricted License – OWI Revocation.
If you meet all requirements, the Iowa DOT will send you notice that your application has been approved. You must then take the notice to a DOT driver’s license station where you may be required to:
