What Does HEATING## Mean for My IID?
Winter is finally upon us. As a result, you may begin seeing the “HEATING##” message on your Ignition Interlock Device.
‘Tis the season to shop for gifts, spend time with loved ones, and remove your head unit when you exit your vehicle (if your state allows this).
If you have one of our Ignition Interlock Devices—namely, the SSI-20/20™ or SSI-20/30™ Ignition Interlock—you’re probably well aware of our alcohol-specific fuel cell and the integrated heater that help your device to function quickly and accurately. However, as the rain turns to snow and the cold winds turn dew to frost, it will take your device a bit longer to heat up in cold weather. When that happens, you’ll see the “HEATING##” message on the screen. This message usually appears right before your initial test to alert you that the unit is warming up to optimal temperature so it is ready to accurately, efficiently analyze your breath sample.
If you see the HEATING## message, don’t worry! It doesn’t mean that you’ve done anything wrong. It just means the internal components will need to heat up to an optimal temperature. To avoid seeing the “HEATING##” message in the future, see if your state allows you to remove your head unit while you are not using your vehicle. Taking the head unit with you inside may help your device and its internal components to remain at optimal temperature for effective, accurate testing.
