Sonora DUI Checkpoint
A DUI Checkpoint was held in Sonora last weekend at Mono Way, east of Fir Drive. The checkpoint was conducted over a period of 7 hours and it is reported that almost 1,500 cars went through this checkpoint. Last year, a similar checkpoint was held and around 900 vehicles went through it.
At last weekend’s checkpoint, of the 1,491 cars that went through the checkpoint, 516 vehicles were screened and only 3 citations were given. Those three citations were all related to license checks. One driver did not have the proper license for the motorcycle he was driving, and the other two were driving on suspended licenses. No DUI arrests were made.
Authorities are lowering the number of vehicles they screen, in an effort to make sure the checkpoint does not delay traffic too heavily. To lower this number they are being trained to seek out certain signs that a driver may be intoxicated.
We hope you are never caught driving under the influence, and encourage everyone to check our blog regularly for DUI checkpoints.
