License Suspension Sting in Newport Beach
Officers in Newport Beach successfully completed a sting operation where they prevented drivers, who had just had their licenses revoked, from getting behind the wheel of the car. This sting took place just outside of the Newport Beach Courthouse, where officers would linger to keep an eye on drivers whose licenses had just been suspended. The officers, who were dressed in plain clothes, were there to target drivers who had been previously arrested for driving under the influence.
Drivers who were caught trying to drive without a license had their cars immediately impounded from the Newport Beach Courthouse parking lot. One offender in particular was exactly the kind of driver the sting was meant to target. Sergio Oseguera is currently fighting a DUI, and has previously been arrested for multiple DUIs. Oseguera says he could not find a ride and is now facing further fines and punishments on top of his already suspended license.
Newport Beach is not the first city to run a sting operation like this. Previously we reported that the city of Visalia had performed a very similar sting operation for the exact same purpose: to catch drivers who were getting behind the wheel during their license suspension. Officers in Newport Beach cited several drivers. Seven men and one woman were cited for driving without licenses.
